Press Release: CRPD Committee holds pre-session with Haitian DPO representatives on Alternative Report

On March 16th, the Committee on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD Committee) will hold a pre-session with representatives of Haitian Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (DPOs) before the adoption of the list of issues.

Haiti will undergo its first review since ratification of the CRPD in 2009.

Disabled Persons’ Organizations representatives will meet online with CRPD Committee members in an interactive dialogue regarding conditions for people with disabilities in Haiti, and major rights challenges, including for marginalized sectors of the disability community.

This process follows the submission of an alternative report, produced in consultation with over 50 organizations of persons with disabilities in Haiti, and funded by the Disability Rights Fund (DRF).

The Disability Rights Fund is thankful for support of donors including; the Ansara Family Fund at the Boston Foundation; the Foundation to Promote Open Society, part of the Open Society Foundations; the Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Foundation; and UK aid from the UK government. The Disability Rights Advocacy Fund is supported by UK aid and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
