To build the capacity of disabled persons’ organization representatives who are part of the Fiji National Council for Disabled Persons (FNCDP) District and Advisory Committees so that they are able to effectively represent the voices of persons with disabilities at the district and national levels. These two committees exist to ensure disability inclusive development is implemented at all levels of government. However, committee members have not yet developed strong understanding and competency on the CRPD. This project would redress this gap through CRPD training of District and Advisory Committees in the Northern, Central and Western Divisions, led by Grantee staff who have several years experience in CRPD training and advocacy. Secondly, the project aims to provide support to Inclusion-Fiji, a newly established national support network for persons with intellectual disabilities, ensuring that they are no longer marginalized in the disability community and have stronger understanding of the CRPD. Both these aims are seen as essential steps to building the disability movement and greater national support for the CRPD as Fiji moves towards ratification of the Convention.
