Standing in Solidarity with Haitian Disability Rights Advocates
The Disability Rights Fund (DRF) team stands in solidarity with the people of Haiti amidst the current crisis, expressing profound concern for the escalating challenges faced by vulnerable communities, particularly persons with disabilities.
Reports from the ground indicate that persons with disabilities, particularly those in Port-au-Prince, are struggling to access basic needs, such as food, water, and medicines, with many already experiencing displacement. DRF started funding Haitian grassroots organizations of persons with disabilities in 2013, witnessing their tireless efforts to build a just and an inclusive Haiti despite years of political turmoil and humanitarian emergencies.
We extend our deepest solidarity with our Haitian partners. Moreover, we recognize that conflicts exacerbate the violence and barriers faced by persons with disabilities. Now is the time to listen to theleadership and voices of grassroots Haitian human rights defenders with disabilities to ensure the rights and urgent needs of the disability community are prioritized. We wish the people of Haiti justice, human dignity, and lasting peace.
